The DEIB Committee

At Summit Legal Aid, we recognize and promote the collective and individual benefits of diverse and inclusive staff, partners, and collaborators. We seek equality for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, familial or marital status, or disability.

A committee of eight staff members and management of Summit Legal Aid have spearheaded efforts to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

The committee has shared goals and commitments to ensure that Summit Legal Aid fosters a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Diversity: Acceptance, respect, and understanding that each individual is unique and the recognition of our individual differences

Equity: Fair treatment for all while striving to identify and eliminate inequalities and barriers to any opportunities

Inclusion: Everyone is included, visible, heard, and considered

Belonging: Everyone is treated and feels like a full member of the larger community, and can thrive

Shared Goals

Our Clients

We strive to ensure our clients and communities are empowered to achieve their full potential and no longer face structural or institutional barriers to economic and social justice.

Our Work Environment

Our offices and business practices reflect our commitment to uplift the under-represented. We strive to recruit and retain a full spectrum of staff who are representative of our communities’ diverse demographics.

Our Community

We collaborate with our inter-connected community partners and service leaders to ensure that we are continually improving in order to best represent all residents in our ten-county region.

To Achieve Our Goals:

  • Summit Legal Aid leadership will engage with national and statewide justice leaders to ensure that our organization is knowledgeable of updated policies and to enhance the visibility of our efforts locally.
  • Summit Legal Aid will recruit staff with diverse talents.  Management will be required to attend training sessions to foster an environment that aligns with our mission.
  • Summit Legal Aid will collect qualitative and quantitative data to ensure an inclusive culture, as well as hold annual trainings for all staff members about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Committee will work with management to continually explore opportunities for growth to ensure that Summit Legal Aid fosters a welcoming and accepting environment for everyone.
